New in: PHYRIS Hyaluron Sensation Range

High moisture loss leads to fine lines caused by dryness on the face, neck and decollete. Moisturising hyaluronic acid products promise rapid relief of these symptoms. The new hyaluronic acid formulations by PHYRIS help you to help yourself. They replenish the skin’s own moisture depots that work like tiny micro-sponges.

Generally, we distinguish between two kinds of moisture binding:

1. Moisture binding in the skin (maintaining function)
2. Moisture binding on the skin (effect and sensation)

In the short term, any kind of moisture feels helpful, but moisture also rapidly evaporates. This is why it is advisable to care for the skin with high-quality moisturisers. They restore the skin’s softness and smoothness and fine lines caused by dryness disappear in a flash. Plump and firm skin is not only a matter of genetics, but also a result of the right care.

Shop Smart: Hyaluronic Acid

High Tech use of Hyaluronic Acid in PHYRIS Hyaluron Sensation Range

Hyaluronic Acid is often commonly known as a veritable water magnet. Not only can it quickly fill up gaps between collagen fibers to plump skin from within, it is also capable of binding moisture. The result? Smooth, supple skin that’s filled with healthy freshness. (No wonder it’s even used as a botox replacement in cosmetic filler procedures!)

Nowadays, lots of skincare boast of Hyaluronic Acid as an active ingredient. But product prices vary greatly, and so do results. Here’s what to look out for when choosing products with Hyaluronic Acid.

1. How deep is the penetration rate? Most products contain hyaluronic acid which can hydrate the epidermis (skin surface) for a temporary moisture boost, but is not as effective to improve skin’s moisture levels in the long run.

2. How long does the Hyaluronic Acid stay within skin? Look for timed release formulas that can continuously replenish skin’s moisture levels for best effect.

3. What other active ingredients are there in the product? Sometimes you can depend on one ingredient to do all the work. If there are supporting ingredients that help in the moisture binding process, results will be better and faster! Look out for winners like panthenol and squalene as part of the ingredients deployed.

4. What is the concentration of hyaluronic acid deployed in the product? It might boast the ingredient in large letters on the packaging, but check out the list of ingredients before you commit to your purchase. Ingredients are listed in order of quantity, from highest to lowest. So make sure the active ingredients aren’t at the bottom end of the list!

If the above has gotten you confused, why not check out the new Phyris Hyaluron Sensation Range? The products in this range use the high-tech formulations of Hyaluronic acid, paired with high-grade complementary ingredients to provide the best in moisture boost aid for all skin types.

ASK ME MONDAYS: Rescue Masks (Part 1 – Oily/Combination Skin)

Overwhelmed with the vast array of Facial Masks available nowadays? Choosing the right mask for your skin condition can help improve your skin. Check out part 1 of our primer on what type of mask to choose for different skin demands:

Phyris Silver Balance MaskOily/Combination Skin

People with oily or combination skin respond well to balancing masks that regulate sebum production and mattify skin. Look for masks with mattifying properties to reduce oily shine and clear up blackheads, but beware of masks that are too harsh! They might dehydrate your skin surface and stimulate further sebum production, leading to skin that is oily on the inside but dry on the outside.

Recommended: Phyris Silver Balance Mask
This gentle and rapidly calming mask is great for oily, normal and combination skin types. It helps refine pores and reduces oily shine. White clay and talcum absorbs the lipid layer and pollution substances from skin surface to make skin look even and more harmonious. Ask Me Mondays: DIY Facials for oily, congested skin

The benefits of a regular facial regime is obvious – clearer, more radiant skin for a start! It’s even more important for those with blemished skin, regular facials lower the likelihood of annoying zits popping up, and prevents ugly pus-filled craters on our face. This is mainly due to the art of extraction by skilled therapists, removing the clogged sebum and bacteria from our pores before they develop into pimples, otherwise known as pustules and papules.

But what about those with busy schedules, who can’t afford even this monthly maintenance? Home care is even more important for such folks – and a DIY facial every week helps to keep skin manageable until you can see your therapist for professional cleansing and extraction!

Here is a list of recommended steps for you to do your own maintenance facials at home – even if you go for facials regularly, it’s still a good regime to have, and helps keep freshly cleansed skin in tip-top condition!

Apply a thin layer of this delightfully fruity mask over face and neck, leave for 10 minutes. You’ll feel a comfortably warm sensation on face as the mask speeds up your skin’s microcirculation and draws out impurities. After 10 minutes, dampen fingers and gently scrub skin in circular motion. Rinse off mask with warm water.

Phyris Hydro Tonic

Step 3: Tone
Apply PHYRIS Hydro Tonic with a cotton pad to rehydrate skin and calm pores.

Step 4: Activation

Ask Me Mondays: Why do I only develop acne in certain areas?

Out damned spot! We all hate a bout of acne, but sometimes these annoying spots just recur regularly on the same areas of our face.

Here’s a breakdown of some common reasons for acne occurrences on certain facial areas.

Forehead
Looks Like:
Small congested bumps that might not be obvious to the naked eye. The skin on this area is bumpy to touch.

Why:
This occurrence is most common in teenagers during puberty. Hormonal changes at this time escalates sebum production and heightens likelihood of clogged pores.
Sometimes, keeping a fringe can irritate skin and introduce dirt and oil to the forehead area, making it more prone to irritation and infection.

Chin / Jaw

Looks Like:
Large inflamed bumps that might appear from time to time. These can be isolated pimples or might occur several at a time, and are more common in adults.

Why:
These might be hormonal acne, caused by a change in your body’s production of hormones. Many women find this common during menopause.

Other Areas:
Sometimes we get blemished skin only on one single area – for example, only the right cheek and never the left, on the sides of our face, etc.
While there might be health implications for these unusual occurrences, often, it is merely caused by a much simpler reason – constant exposure to an external source of skin irritation.

For example:
Telephone, keyboard, fingers… and many more!

Try to recall when was the last time you sterilized your computer keyboard, your telephone or your mobile phone? Dust and bacteria accumulates on these objects daily, and we are frequently exposed to them for long periods of time. Imagine an afternoon of typing on a germ infused keyboard, then using those same fingers to scratch your face. Or if you need to make lots of phone calls daily, and don’t sterilize your phone regularly, that might explain why your pimples only happen on the right side of your face – where you hold your phone against it.

So give some thought to the unintended exposure to these acne ‘stimulants’, to see if any are contributing to your skin blemishes.
And perhaps it’s time to sterilize your mobile phone!

Silver: the best bet for blemished skin

Trapped Sebum (Oil) + Dirt + Bacteria leads to Acne.

Acne is caused by bacterial buildup in blocked follicles, where the accumulation of sebum and dirt creates a conducive environment for bacteria to feed and grow. The increased dirt, oil and bacteria trapped beneath skin can enlarge and burst the follicle wall. When this happens, the body’s immune system sends in white blood cells to fight the bacterial infection, and repair the follicle wall. This is what causes the bumpy inflamed spots commonly known as pimples.

Since inflamed acne is caused by bacteria feeding on trapped oil and dirt, regulating excessive oil secretion and preventing bacterial infection is useful in preventing acne skin.

phyris derma controlThis is where Phyris DERMA CONTROL skincare range comes in! The products in the DERMA  CONTROL range are formulated with micro-silver, a bio-active, antibacterial ingredient.
